There is no other option in the short term. Longer term, we should also pray for the Democratic party that they change their position and embrace life.George @ Convert Journalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11230803204895454672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2416649589454162340.post-73970467316415281402012-07-28T17:51:31.399-05:002012-07-28T17:51:31.399-05:00Sadly, Mother Mary is a stumbling block for many P...Sadly, Mother Mary is a stumbling block for many Protestants. I've tried to explain the difference between devotion and worship to people, including my brother-in-law, so many times. I've even been told that I'm going to hell because I'm a Catholic - it's often hard to get past their misconceptions of Catholicism. Great comment on Mary. I used to watch the Journey Home too, as did Randy. Seems like it would be just a little bit easier to stand together if we could leave the theology disagreement temporarily behind us. At same time, I am out there with my teenage daughter that is at that point where she needs to come to a love of her Catholic faith herself, not because I practice it and love it, but because she sees the beauty and truth in it and can defend it if need be. There was a Journey Home episode where a former Presbyterian got past his Mary problem when he realized it was not worship, not a cult or idol worship because that is in place of God. Instead he found that the more faithful a person was in devotion to Mary and praying the rosary, the closer they were to Jesus. We understand it, being Catholics, that Mary leads us to Jesus and in fact gives us the graces to grow in our love and trust relationship with Jesus, but they can't get past all the times we say Hail Mary, and how is that not putting Mary before Jesus, God?CWriteshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06654242399318374459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2416649589454162340.post-62674501830187082852012-07-25T01:09:41.495-05:002012-07-25T01:09:41.495-05:00Caroline, Thank you! I guess I understand a that it is natural to make friends seeking a common ground . . . you're saved (i.e. not Catholic, not praying the rosary), but we already had common ground in that Catholic and Protestant we were out there on a Saturday morning to pray and advocate for the voiceless unborn. Reminds me of Jesus's words in Matt 16:3;

" You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times."

You interpreted the signs by your witness to life in the midst of the culture of death. And what a powerful witness it is.

As a former Protestant, I have to love the "you must be saved cause you're not praying the rosary" comment and your response!

Blessings and thanks for sharing from your experience. +Carolinehttp://www.bellofthewanderer.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2416649589454162340.post-7335241858685909612012-07-22T12:51:33.636-05:002012-07-22T12:51:33.636-05:00"The challenge is to get up above the darknes..."The challenge is to get up above the darkness, to seek the light, so that we can reflect the light of the Gospel to those around us."
